Webinar: Coil-On-Plug Diagnostics and Tips

by | Mar 7, 2024 | 0 comments

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is hosting a free webinar for service technicians on Tuesday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m. ET entitled “Ignition Coil-On-Plug (COP) Diagnostics and Tips.”

In this webinar, Philip Austin with Niterra (formerly NGK Spark Plugs) will discuss best practices that streamline the ignition coil-on-plug diagnostic process through “real-world” scan tool data and heavy scope waveform patterns.

Prior use and understanding of basic scope patterns and operation is advised. However, with proper notetaking, new scope users can find this webinar beneficial.

Webinar topics include:

  • In-depth review of coil-on-plug (COP) operation and two types of COP coil designs
  • Spark testers: Is secondary voltage testing worth the effort on COP?
  • Understanding powertrain control module (PCM) logic in controlling various COP systems
  • Various diagnostic testing
  • Primary Voltage Testing vs Primary Current Testing
  • Ignition Feed Voltage vs Ignition Trigger Signal Testing
  • COP-related failures on domestic and import applications through case studies

Participants in this webinar will receive a certificate of attendance for the live session. Please allow one week for automatic email delivery of the certificate.

After registering, a confirmation email will be sent containing information about joining the webinar. Those who are not sure if they can attend are encouraged to register as they will receive a follow-up email with details on how to attend a recorded session, if available. Access to recorded sessions is reserved for those who register for the live event.
